John McAfee Arrested For US Tax Evasion in Spain
For anyone following the news on McAfee, it’s not surprising news.
He’s taunted and fled law enforcement for years, from accusations from murder to tax evasion.
Earlier this week, John McAfee was found in Spain by the US Department of Justice after years of living on the run and evading law enforcement.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sued McAfee for pumping cryptos back in 2017 and being compensated for doing so. This would be seen as similar to a CEO pumping their own companies stock by saying it will sky rocket on Twitter. There are SEC laws explicitly against these types of behaviors.
McAfee has been commonly known for shilling unpopular cryptocurrencies in the crypto community for some time.
He even had a program where you could pay him in Ethereum or Bitcoin, and he would recommend purchasing your cryptocurrency to his millions of followers.
There were even cryptocurrency bots that were created to quickly buy his recommendation and dump them once the public found out about it.
It’s noted that he raised over $40 million in all of his money making schemes.
In the lawsuit by the SEC, they also filed a suit against his long term body guard, Jimmy Gale Watson.
The Life of McAfee
John McAfee was once known for being a prominent cyber security expert and having his software run on millions of computers. He made millions in the early 2000’s and was expected to continue living a successful life in the technology space.
He was once a respected member of the Silicon Valley elite.
The Netflix Documentary “Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee” is fascinating and deserves a watch if you’re in the tech space.
It follows his life in the jungles of Belize and his “alternative lifestyle”. He has several girlfriends, bodyguards and never travelled alone. He was essentially living in a gang. He was also accused of murdering a neighbor over a land dispute.
Whether you love or hate him, you can’t say he’s not an interesting and intelligent character.
The documentary has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for anyone on the fence.
